THE COMIX SCHEME IS NOW IN PROGRESS AND APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED. FOR DETAILS OF OUR EXCITING NEW COMIX TELFORD SCHEME, CLICK HERE.
COMIX—Calling all Comic Heroes!
About the COMIX Scheme If you’re 16 plus, with a passion for comic art and live in the West Midlands, then Hi8us Midlands’ latest FREE comic art scheme called COMIX, could be for you. All the lucky winners will also get to work with people on similar schemes across Europe and get a supported trip to a comic art festival in Spain as well as a trip to the British International Comics Show (BICS).
20 talented individuals will get the opportunity to develop their skills with John McCrea (X-MEN, SPIDERMAN AND THE HULK), Hunt Emerson (THE BEANO, WALL STREET JOURNAL AND FORTEAN TIMES), Laura Howell (THE BEANO, THE GUARDIAN), Asia Alfasi (IMAF WINNER, BEST NEW MANGA, BLOOMSBURY GRAPHIC NOVELIST) and Andi Watson (GEISHA, BUFFY) amongst others.
HOW WE ASSESS SUBMISSIONS Comix is a competitive scheme with only 20 places available for anyone 16+ who lives in the West Midlands. We are committed to Equal Opportunities and welcome applications from all groups — women are particularly encouraged as they're still under-represented in the comics industry. Applicants don't need any previous qualifications just passion, talent/potential and commitment to work hard!
If you have any questions at all about making a submission, please don’t hesitate to contact Kulwant (contact details below) — we want you to apply so don’t be shy!
WHAT WE NEED FOR SUBMISSIONS We would like you to send us examples of your best and most recent work. We are looking for good photocopies of 2-4 pages of pencilled, original continuous comic-strip preferably without lettering (we don’t want pictures of single characters standing around). In other words, we want you to illustrate a comic story with out drawing the words or speech bubbles (if you’ve already put text on your artwork we will accept it). We want to see how you draw and also how you tell a story in pictures.
A FULL APPLICATION PACK WITH GUIDELINES IS AVAILABLE TO DOWNLOAD HERE. PLEASE READ CAREFULLY BEFORE CREATING AND SUBMITTING ARTWORK.
