Beyond the Numbers Game
Company: Hi8us Projects
Project Type:
Assessment Toolkit
Group:
Several Projects and Groups
Date:
2007

Description: We have a long standing interest in the suitability of performance measures used by policy makers and funding agencies to assess the value of projects which have received assistance. When it came to understanding the value of creative activity with young people, we felt our work was undervalued by an over emphasis on easily calculated performance indicators.

So in collaboration with Goldsmiths, University of London and Hi8us Midlands, Hi8us Projects conducted research designed to explore the usefulness of existing performance measures. We wanted to use this as a means to develop an alternative framework and toolkit for assessing the value of creativity in general, and participatory media in particular. Our aim is to develop a new toolkit and widely accepted method of understanding participatory media, especially as a process for engagement and social inclusion with young people. We wanted to move Beyond the Numbers Game to create something of lasting value for policy makers, funding agencies and practitioners.
