COMICS RESOURCES

Breaking into the Comics industry can take perseverance, practice and time. Comic Festivals are a great place to start as you will be rubbing shoulders with artists, publishers and other fans. Take with you handy A4 photocopies of your artwork (or your printed works), with your contact details clearly provided on each page. Take around 5-10 copies that you can leave with various editors and publishers at the Festivals. Also take some courage with you, don't be afraid of speaking to people and trying to find out who's who — however you can! Most publishers have their own stands. Don't neglect the small press publishers either — they won't pay you for any work, but if you're work is good, you can be sure they'll be the first to give you a chance. It means your work gets printed and circulated which means people see it and will provide invaluable experience. and a start to creating a printed portfolio.

In the UK, there are a handful of Comic Festivals and The British International Comics Show in Birmingham is now the biggest so it should be at the top of your list as it has all the major publishers:
