Hi8us Midlands Project Overview

ALICE (Arts, Literacy and ICT in Education):
Hi8us Midlands has created five online educational modules for Wednesbury Education Action Zone and partner schools in South Africa. It has received Curriculum Online approval.

Animatix:
Young people in rural Shropshire and urban Birmingham worked together online to develop a script for an animated graphic novel. Hi8us collaborated with Ludlow‘s Pentabus Theatre Company and Birmingham’s The Drum Arts Centre. www.animatix.org

Lisa’s No Pizza:
Hi8us produced animation and interactive resources on bullying and transition for Handsworth Schools Group. It worked with young people from three schools to develop stories and story boards. www.stopbullying.org

StripSearch2:
The only scheme of its kind in the country, StripSearch works with John McCrea – an artist on comics like Batman, Spiderman and X-Men – to nurture talent among budding comic illustrators. www.stripsearch.org.uk

AdsUp:
Three short films, produced with young mothers, which look at teenage pregnancy, drugs, alcohol and sexuality. The films were shown in cinemas as part of a Teenage Pregnancy Campaign. www.adsup.org

EDRAMA & AI:
Hi8us Midlands is part of a project looking at using Artificial Intelligence to deliver EDRAMA. Funded by PACCIT (People at the Centre of Information Technology) the project also involves Birmingham University, BT Exact and Maverick TV.

e-Learning tools for the xL Programme:
Hi8us Midlands is producing an interactive module for the Prince’s Trust, aimed at young people at risk of social exclusion in schools.

Media Representation Project with Young Women’s Group:
Hi8us Midlands will work with young women to produce an interactive resource that shows how health and drug related issues are represented in the media.

Video for Health Visitor Training:
A short, talking heads-style video to support training and best practice for Birmingham health visitors when working with young parents.

Inclusion Through Media:
A series of projects being developed with partners like Screen West Midlands under the ITM banner. Hi8us Midlands will create a scriptwriting scheme for under-represented black and Asian female writers, and start clubs encouraging young people to get involved with filmmaking.
